Words to Live By
John and Mona, charismatic owners of Chateau Toots, have
created a list of Words to Live By.
They've shared these words with each other for years and now
want to share them with you.

Chateau
(n.): A castle or a fortress in France. A royal residence, a
manor house or the residence of the lord of the manor.
Toots (n.): In 1936 American Speech XI, 375/2 Toots used to
be used in families here and there as a nickname, or a term
of endearment, the vowel sounded as in “foots” ….Is this
term the ancestor of the present mode of address in ‘O.K.
toots!’, ‘Hello Toots’. It is a term of endearment and a
nickname.
Well, now that you know the definition of both “Chateau” and
“Toots”, let us explain how we decided to name our Bed and
Breakfast Chateau Toots.
Never in a million years did we ever expect to find an
actual Chateau on Lay Lake. Some call it the luck of the
goofy. We looked at it as a wonderful opportunity to combine
our passion of entertaining and creating an enchanting
atmosphere for all that visit. So it was only natural for us
to want to incorporate the word Chateau into our business
name.
Toots
was a family name that my grandmother would call her
girlfriends. Instead of addressing friends or family members
by their proper name, she would refer to them as Toots.
Toots to me always meant “my friend”. That is one of the
reason’s why we named our little Cockapoo “Toots”. So when
we purchased the house and decided to turn it into a B&B,
the most appropriate name we could come up with was “Chateau
Toots”.
Now if we try and define “Chateau Toots”, one would have to
think, a castle of friends. So welcome one, welcome all to
our home. A place where friendships are made and dreams
really do come true. |
